Bloomsburg Field Hockey Finishes Off Perfect Regular Season

SHIPPENSBURG- The Bloomsburg University field hockey team defeated Shippensburg, 4-1, on Saturday to finish the regular season with a perfect record of 20-0. It is the first time since 2002 and the fifth time in school history that the team has finished the regular season unbeaten.

The Huskies started the scoring just three minutes into the game when Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/ Lackawanna Trail) scored off a Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/ Lower Moreland) assist to give Bloomsburg an early lead. Nine minutes later Maribeth Brozena (Larksville/ Wyoming Valley West) set up Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl/ Pen Argyl) for a goal to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.

Shippensburg was able to cut the lead to 2-1 when Ashley Watt scored an unassisted goal at the 22 minute mark. However, the Huskies would rally late in the half, adding goals from Venessa Witman (Oley/ Oley Valley) and Maggey Bloskey (Danville/ Danville) to give Bloomsburg a 4-1 lead going into halftime.

The score would remain the same throughout the second half as both defenses held strong. Bloomsburg goalie Tracey Hudak (Sweet Valley/ Lake-Lehman) had seven saves in net.

Bloomsburg, 20-0, 14-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), will host the PSAC Championships on November 3rd and 4th.
